about

I first started writing this song in 2021, mid-pandemic, dreaming of escaping landlocked St. Louis, craving interaction and seeing the same from my fellow humans. The idea of gathering with family and friends to enjoy life together, once a norm, became a thought crime. As life slowly adapted back to normal, I kept working on the song, adding and revising and changing and perfecting. Eventually, I released the artwork for this song on 8/08 in anticipation of releasing the song shortly after. But the absolute tragic and deadly wildfires in Lahaina occurred that very same day and I really struggled with the idea of putting this song out. The last thing I wanted was for a fun party song to bring pain to anyone dealing with this kind of loss. I decided to go ahead and release the song so we can donate whatever money is raised through this Bandcamp campaign, hoping we can help these good people retain their property and not sell out to all the big developers who are swooping in to gobble up these ancestral lands. We hope to show the people of Hawaii that their spirit and culture is highly appreciated by the mainlanders, and that they inspire and motivate us to gather in love and joy to celebrate life.
